Haitian Spirit!

My spirit is tempered by the overwhelming tragedy in Haiti.  The many scenes of death and injury fill the airways in an effort to convey the magnitude of the events as they unfold.  I witnessed many bodies lying strewn on roadways as the survivors are left to grieve while still trying to secure their own safety.  Bodies trapped between crumbled infrastructures, tears carving trails along dirt stained faces, survivors walking listlessly around rubble and trash.  My heart goes out to the Haitian people.  As a world community, we are faced yet again with a tragedy that reaches beyond autonomous borders and above the realm of reason.  We can only console, assist, and give refuge! I am motivated by the human spirit, more importantly the resolve to overcome tragedy.  For instance, NBC showed a mother clutching her son, a boy no more than seven years old, as doctors sewed his leg shut without anesthesia.  The pain was evident in his face yet his demeanor was still regal.  He endured to survive, his resolve is inspiring.

Introduction!

Keeping in mind that posting personal information about a myriad of subjects can potentially come back to bite you in the arse, I’ll approach my blog as objectively as possible. There are certain topics that should remain off limits to both protect yourself and protect the feelings of those that may come across your blog. However I would like utilize this forum to post personal accounts, goals, writings, and loads of stories about the nuances of life that are interesting to me!

I really want to challenge myself as a writer as I begin to pursue a career in the wake of graduating from college. I don’t think of myself as a good writer, but I’ve always been insecure of my abilities, which mostly translates as a motivation to be better. My current status is somewhat convoluted. I’m a senior, in my last semester at the University of South Carolina Spartanburg. I’m majoring in journalism with a minor in speech. I hope to obtain a position in PR with a bit of luck and loads of potential. However since returning to school the economy has basically…well you know! I’ll be entering a job market that is saturated with talent and the avalability of good jobs dependent on who you know, a scary situation considering I got out of the military with the thinking that a degree was my golden ticket to success. Granted it should help, but I worry that I put too much precedent on the degree rather than obtaining experience in the field I’m pursuing.
